THE REASON FOR THE GIFT

1 Corinthians 14:12 Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.

People have different reasons for which they want certain gifts. Humans give gifts and God also give gifts. Most often gifts are offered to show appreciation and sometimes to build a rapport between two parties. Ephesians 4:8 Therefore He says:  "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men." The Apostle Paul encourage the Corinthian church to pursue love and to desire spiritual gifts. 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For you as a believer, the word of God has made it why you should desire any gift. Jesus Christ has given you whatever gift you have because of His Church.

He wants His Church to be edified. Edify means to instruct or improve morally, physically, spiritually or intellectually. The gifts of God have not been given to us for personal gains but our gifts must improve the church and cause the church to excel. Any gift you have that does not advance the course of the church but rather scatters it is not of God. Many people desire the gifts of God but they have not received them because of ill motives. Matthew 7:6 Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. The Church is Christ's precious gift on earth and He won't gifts to people who will destroy His Church.

Prayer: Holy Spirit take away from my heart any evil heart desire and help me to use my gifts for the edification of your church in Jesus' name. Amen.
