FLAWS OF FATHERHOOD

1 Samuel 2:31 The time is coming when I will put an end to your family, so it will no longer serve as my priests. All the members of your family will die before their time. None will reach old age.

Fatherhood is a great responsibility. It is God's highly esteemed status that He shares with men. Throughout Jesus' life on earth, He often referred to His Father in Heaven and was committed to obeying Him that was how He survived on earth. Fathers themselves have the responsibility of obeying God, secondly, they must command their household to obey God and teach their children to obey them and live right in society.  Genesis 18:18-19“For Abraham will certainly become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him.  I have singled him out so that he will command his sons and their families to keep the way of the lord by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”

There is a promise of God hanging over the head of Father, which is found in Genesis 15:5 Then He brought him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be." God has promised fathers established and prosperous descendants but not until they have commanded their children in the ways of the Lord. Directing your children and your household in the ways of the Lord is not done in a laissez-faire manner. A father is a teacher and a commander at the same time.

This Eli passing comment about the attitudes of his sons. 1 Samuel 2:23-24  Eli said to them, “I have been hearing reports from all the people about the wicked things you are doing. Why do you keep sinning? You must stop, my sons! The reports I hear among the lord’s people are not good. Fathers must scold and discipline their children when they veer from the ways of the Lord, so their dynasty and legacy will outlive them. It takes a father who fears God to raise children in the fear of the Lord. Hebrews 12: 7- 8 You endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by their father?
If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.

Prayer: Our Father in Heaven help all fathers to raise their children in the fear of the Lord. Anoint them with your Spirit and make them great fathers in Jesus' name. Amen.
