GREENER PASTURES
Ruth 1:1 In the days when the judges ruled in Israel, a severe famine came upon the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah left his home and went to live in the country of Moab, taking his wife and two sons with him.
The quest for a better life is what everyone desires. Even those who venture into evil believe it will give them a better life. In our quest for better a better life one thing that constantly runs through is migration from one place to the other in search of greener pastures. But as a child of God economic indicators should not direct your life what directs your life is the word of God. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Famine made Elimelech leave the Land of Judah- the people of God to go and dwell in Moab the Land of the heathen. There is nothing wrong with seeking greener pastures in times of economic crisis but be sure you are led by God to go. God directed Abraham to move from his native land and relocate to where He was going to show him. Genesis 12:1-2 Now the Lord had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father`s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.
We can juxtapose Abraham with Elimelech. One moved based on the economic situation and the other moved as he was led by God. God is not responsible or under any obligation to help us when we are facing the consequences of our disobedience to His word. He shows us mercy and grace out of His own sovereignty and with that, He says I will be merciful to whom I will be merciful and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious. When you blow it with God is don't have a choice the only choice you have is to cry out for mercy. Ruth 1:3&5 Then Elimelech died, and Naomi was left with her two sons. both Mahlon and Kilion died. This left Naomi alone, without her two sons or her husband.
God was not responsible for this. After some years the people of Judah were restored. Enduring hardship is part of our values as believers. Naomi heard and returned but not with his husband and children. It is better to endure hardship obeying God than to enjoy disobeying God. When it is all said and done God will settle you. 1 Peter 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
Prayer: Holy Spirit give bear in me the fruit of patience to always trust God's processes and His ways. Father direct my path in all I do in Jesus' name. Amen.
