GRAFTED IN

Romans 11:17 But some of these branches from Abraham’s tree—some of the people of Israel—have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, have been grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God’s special olive tree.

What a privilege given to us by God as gentiles. The wild olive tree is a species of the olive tree but does not produce oil. In the olden days, the wild olive tree was used to fashion the olive wreath awarded to victors at the ancient Olympic games. The ancient and sacred wild-olive tree of Olympia stood near the Temple of Zeus, patron of the games. We Gentiles were from idolatory backgrounds and we were not connected to God in any way. Jesus Christ came to make a way for us to be engrafted in. He became the true vine and we are His branches. And because we are the branch of Christ we have been given a share in Abraham's inheritance. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God’s special olive tree. We have not been grafted in to be looked down upon or to be given surpluses. We also have become recipients of the blessing of Abraham and his children. We have received the Holy Spirit which gives us access to all of God.

Prayer: Father  I thank you for engrafting me in to share the blessings of Father Abraham and to receive the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Father.
