THE WEIGHT OF LEADERSHIP

Numbers 20:12 But the lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!”

Leadership is a heavyweight responsibility and it is not to be toiled with. Every leader has two persons to please God and the people or the followers. You have already failed as a leader if you think you are leading to please yourself. Every leader's lead is God, amid the pressure, needs, betrayals, and troubles of the people and even at the point danger where your life is in danger, God expects you to duly rely on Him and to follow every instruction He gives you. God does not excuse or pardon the disobedience of a leader because of the action or inaction of the people.

The weight of leadership is when you have to obey God contrary to the needs and expectations. Moses was angry because of the people's actions towards God but in His anger, he disobeyed God and was disqualified from entering the promise land. King Saul out of the pressure of people off offered a he was not to sacrifice which led to his disqualification as king. Moses expressed a personal emotion and was disqualified, king Saul followed the people and was disqualified. Whether is the people or you God expects total obedience from you.

King David was also a leader who was under great pressure when his town was raided by the Amalekites who took possession of their wives and children, the people threatened to kill yet he consulted God on the action. 1 Samuel 30:6-8David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the lord his God.

Then he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it. Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?”And the lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!” As a leader, you follow your lead - God leads. If you fail to do so you will become a signpost, your followers will enter into God's promises and you will be cut.

Prayer: Father we pray for all leaders that you give them the courage to follow your leadings no matter the challenges of life and the pressure of the people in Jesus' name. Amen.
