A GENERATIONAL LEADER

Numbers 27:17 Give them someone who will guide them wherever they go and will lead them into battle, so the community of the Lord will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”

Numbers twenty-seven must have been a very difficult time in the life of Moses in his walk with God. He had just by God's command given the daughters of Zelophedad the inheritance of their father as they Petitioned him. Right after that God tells Moses to go up to Mountain Abaraim and have a view of the Promise Land and prepare himself to come home into eternity. As if that was not enough he was given a reminder by God on why he had been disqualified from entering the Promise Land again. This can be very disturbing to anyone when you are reminded of your failure.

Numbers 27:12- 14 One day the lord said to Moses, “Climb one of the mountains east of the river, and look out over the land I have given the people of Israel. After you have seen it, you will die like your brother, Aaron, for you both rebelled against my instructions in the wilderness of Zin. When the people of Israel rebelled, you failed to demonstrate my holiness to them at the waters.” (These are the waters of Meribah at Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.) After God gave Moses this news, he did not plead his case again but he pleaded for a leader for the people of Israel.

What an amazing leader, he had accepted his fate and was ready to move on but his greatest desire was the people and their welfare. Moses had a heart for the people of Isreal and every leader must have a heart for the people even at the point of death. Moses was forsaken for the people of Israel entered Promise Land. Jesus Christ shouted on the cross, my Father! My father! Why have you forsaken me? He was forsaken for our sake so we will get eternal life. Every leader must be ready to be forsaken and to go through tough times for the people's sake. Is the price to pay for leadership. The kind of leadership that thrives at the expense of the plight and suffering of the people is not biblical at all.

Every great leader thinks about the next generation, their well-being and sustainability. Your accomplishment may be great or small, or you might not fully see it like Moses but no matter how it is think about the next generation. Moses said Yes Sir, am coming home but don't let your people be without a guide. Numbers 27:15-17 Then Moses said to the lord, “O  lord, you are the God who gives breath to all creatures. Please appoint a new man as the leader for the community. Give them someone who will guide them wherever they go and will lead them into battle, so the community of the Lord will not be like sheep without a shepherd.” Be a generational leader who leaves the next generation with a guide.

Prayer: Father give me a heart of a generational leader, I also pray all in leadership that you give them an understanding of leadership and great love for the people in Jesus' name. Amen.
