PURPOSE DRIVEN LOVE

1Samuel 20:16-17 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, "May the LORD call David’s enemies to account." And Jonathan had David reaffirm his oath out of love for him because he loved him as he loved himself.

The story of David and Jonathan is one of the rich, righteous relationships in the Bible. Love without measure. Purpose-driven love. In reality, Jonathan should have hated David to the core because he was a threat to him becoming a king. But Jonathan saw with the eyes of the spirit. He loved him because he carried divine destiny and continually reaffirmed his oath for him out of love. Their relationship like any other relationship had its ups and downs, there were moments where David doubted Jonathan's commitment to him, even in such circumstances Jonathan proved his love for him more. 1 Samuel 20:23 And about the matter you and I discussed —remember, the LORD is witness between you and me forever." The pillar and center of their relationship was God. And if God is the pillar and center of relationship no matter the storms that hit it it will stand. Because it is guided by Godly principles such as grace, truth, honour, forgiveness, patience. 1Corinthians 13:4-8a Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
Purpose-driven love does not destroy one another. God gave us Jesus because he loved us, and He had eternity in mind. St. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The first purpose-driven love we have to pursue is the love of God. And like Johnathan let pursue purpose-driven relationships. Selah

Prayer: Holy Spirit help me love the Lord with all my heart also help me to love beyond measure in your purpose-driven relationship in my life in Jesus' name. Amen.
