THE OUTWARD AND THE HEART
1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
Interesting God does not look at the things we look at. We are limited by our sight but God is not. This is our greatest limitation as human beings. We employ people based on their qualifications, we select leaders based on their appearance, we reverence people based on their achievements in life. We write people off in life because they do not meet this criterion and yet these were the very people who would have been best for those positions. But for God intervening the great prophet Samuel would have missed it if the prophets were missing it what of us. How can we move from judging by the outward to judging by the heart?
Romans 8:26-27 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Judging by the outward is the weakness of the human race and it will take the Holy Spirit to help us. We must prayerfully consider any decision we take in the power of the Holy Spirit. The one who searches the Heart is the Holy Spirit and He knows the mind of God. Intimacy with the Holy Spirit is the only way we can move from outward judgment to heart judgment.
Prayer: Holy Spirit take charge of my life and help me in my daily judgments to bring glory to the father in Jesus' name. Amen
