WINNING TOGETHER

Deuteronomy 3:20 Until the Lord has given rest to your brethren as to you, and they also possess the land which the Lord your God is giving them beyond the Jordan. Then each of you may return to his possession which I have given you.

It is a beautiful thing to be the first to do well and achieve great things, especially in the first generation. Everyone wants that for him or herself. Jesus Christ is called the First Fruit of all creation. The tribes of Reuben, Gad and Manasseh were the first to receive their portion of the promised land. The other nine tribes were yet to battle out with the inhabitants on the promised land for their portion. This was what Moses had to say to those who had their inheritance first.

Deuteronomy 3:18 “At that time I gave this command to the tribes that would live east of the Jordan: ‘Although the Lord your God has given you this land as your property, all your fighting men must cross the Jordan ahead of your Israelite relatives, armed and ready to assist them. Being first does not relegate you from the battle of your other brethren rather God has given you the advantage with the worth of experiences to enable you to help others come out of what you have suffered.

The three tribes, Reuben, Gad and Manasseh were under strict instructions to make the other tribes enter into their rest before they can return and enjoy their inherited portion. All your fighting men must cross the Jordan ahead of your Israelite relatives, armed and ready to assist them. You must be ready and willing to use all you have to assist others. This is the mindset of God winning together. Even in the Lord's prayer, Jesus said when we are praying we should say our Father.

It is rather unfortunate this is not the mindset of many in the world today including believers. Everyone is looking for personal achievement and laurels. Carrying and sharing each other's burden was the way of the early church and we must emulate it. Acts 4:34-35 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles` feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.

Prayer: Holy Spirit fill us with the mindset of Christ Jesus in how we ought to relate with one another and to hold each other up until we all attain the promises of God in Jesus' name.  Amen.
