HIS GREATEST DESIRE

John 13:8-9 Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!"

Peter was not perfect in his walk with the Lord Jesus Christ but one thing was sure after his encounter with Jesus Christ he loved Him. In our verse for today, Jesus Christ was teaching His disciples the example of servant leadership by washing their feet but Peter thought Jesus Christ being their master should not wash their feet.

When Jesus told Peter the implication of Him not washing his feet, he asked that his hands and head be washed as well.
This statement from Peter shows what he desired most. He does not have a life if Jesus Christ is not part of it. Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!" He wants every part of Him to belong to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Asking the Lord to wash his hands implies he is committing the work of his hands, skills, and income to the Lord, He wants Jesus Christ to be part of it. Asking Jesus Christ to wash his head means he is ready to commit his mind to the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said to him, in Matthew 22:37 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind".

Jesus Christ washing the feet of His disciples was demonstrating to them humility, servant leadership and how they ought to serve each other.  As a follower, you are to emulate Him, serving one another in lowliness of heart and mind, seeking to build one another up in humility and love. Peter desired all these and more, it is a godly desire hence let this be your desire also as a child of God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for giving an example to follow. Holy Spirit help and empower me to desire the ways of Jesus Christ in all I say and do in Jesus' name. Amen.
