KORAH'S GENERATION

Numbers 16:40 This would warn the Israelites that no unauthorized person—no one who was not a descendant of Aaron—should ever enter the lord’s presence to burn incense. If anyone did, the same thing would happen to him as happened to Korah and his followers. So the lord’s instructions to Moses were carried out.

Numbers sixteen begins with the name of a man called Korah a descendant of Levi and his allies. They are the generation who lacked understanding of the callings of God. They leave their positions to desire what others have. They approached Moses claiming they have equal rights with him since they are Levites. Numbers 16:3 They united against Moses and Aaron and said, “You have gone too far! The whole community of Israel has been set apart by the lord, and he is with all of us. What right do you have to act as though you are greater than the rest of the lord’s people?”

Korah's generation are people God has called into His service but are not satisfied with what God has given them, the discontent generation. Numbers 16:8 -10 Then Moses spoke again to Korah: “Now listen, you Levites! Does it seem insignificant to you that the God of Israel has chosen you from among all the community of Israel to be near him so you can serve in the lord’s Tabernacle and stand before the people to minister to them? Korah, he has already given this special ministry to you and your fellow Levites. Are you now demanding the priesthood as well?

The Levites had three great privileges, they were closest to God, they served in God's house and ministered to the people of God yet Korah and his allies did not think that was enough they wanted to be High Priests. In their quest for power they forget Moses and Aaron whom God used to call them, give them instructions and their possession and rebel against them. But God always has a way of separating the chaff from the wheat. Heat is used to eliminate the weed. God allowed Korah and co to bring an offering and just like Moses and Aaron there by the fireside God separated his own.

The earth opened and swallowed their possessions. And the two hundred and fifty men were burnt by fire from God. Jude 1:11 Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion. Rebellion destroys. Beloved stay in your position and be content at the right time God will lift you. You can be godly and not content and once you are not content you begin to contend for things and privileges that are not yours. Stay on your guard. 1 Timothy 6:6 True godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.

Prayer: Holy Spirit rid my heart of any form of discontentment and fill me with the joy of the Lord in my service in your kingdom and humanity in Jesus' name. Amen.
