HOW YOU BECOME AN ENEMY OF GOD

Nahum 3:5 "No wonder I am your enemy!" declares the Lord Almighty. "And now I will lift your skirts so all the earth will see your nakedness and shame.

Hundreds before the book of Nahum, the prophet Jonah went to the city of Nineveh, the capital city of Assyria, to give a message to them about a distraction awaiting them. They repented and surrendered to God, but many later, in the days of Nahum, Assyria became God's enemy. What happened?

Beloved, the God of grace and mercy and many chances, is also the God of vengeance and judgement. Love covers the multitude of sins, but the same love can expose you when enmity sets in.
James 4:4 You adulterers! Don't you realize that friendship with this world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if your aim is to enjoy this world, you can't be a friend of God. Is God saying we should not befriend people and not use the tech and gadgets of the world? Adam and Eve were the first parents were enjoying everything God created. The tree, rivers, galaxies, plants, animals, and so until they disobeyed God; He was very cool with them. We are in the world; we build houses, use high-tech gadgets, social media, phones and so on but with all these things at our disposal, we owe our total allegiance to God to obey his very words.

When you compare the first four verses of Nahum chapter three to the first three verses of James Chapter four, you will identify similar actions that God consider evil. When you are constantly involved in these things without repenting and turning to God, you become the enemy of God. James 4:2 You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous for what others have, and you can't possess it, so you fight and quarrel to take it away from them. And yet the reason you don't have what you want is that you don't ask God for it. Nahum 3:1 How terrible it will be for Nineveh, the city of murder and lies! She is crammed with wealth to be plundered. Ephesians 2:2 You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan, the mighty prince of the power of the air. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. You become an enemy of God by following Satan and refusing to obey God. Are you God's enemy? You can become His friend now by turning to Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for giving me Jesus Christ as a channel to turn away from your wrath and to receive your mercy. Jesus Christ, I believe in you. Thanks for the gift of salvation. Amen.
