BLOOD COVENANT

Zechariah 9:11-12 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.
Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.

There is power in the blood. Blood covenants can be a curse and a blessing. A blessing to those who play by the rules and a curse to those who go against the rules.

This is God reassuring the people of Jerusalem and Judah that because He has a blood covenant with them, He shall bring them deliverance. What is a waterless pit? Where we have water there is the hope of life springing up. Job 14:8-9 Its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump die in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant. The absence of water signifies drought, famine, and hard times. Falling in a pit is serious in itself how much more falling into a waterless pit? This was the fate of Joseph when his brothers dug a pit and placed him in it. Genesis 37:24 Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it. When you are in a waterless pit, it means you have been sentenced to death, it will only take a blood covenant to bring you out.

When the brothers of Joseph eventually brought him out of the pit and sold him to
Ishmaelites had to slaughter a goat, signifying a blood covenant. Genesis 37:29&31 Then Reuben returned to the pit, and indeed Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes. So they took Joseph’s tunic, killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood. This was just making way for the superior blood of Jesus Christ. Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. The two verses before verse eleven talk about Jesus Christ. Beloved the blood that delivers you from the waterless pit is not the blood of bulls, fowls, and cattle nor the blood covenant you with a human. It takes the blood of Jesus Christ to deliver and to give the hope of a double-fold restoration. Do you have a covenant with the blood of Jesus Christ?

Prayer: Jesus Christ I enter into a blood covenant with you now. Let the terms of your covenant speak for me. Deliver me from any waterless pit and restore me in Jesus' name. Amen
