ARE YOU ON A FITNESS PLAN?
1Timothy 4:7-8 Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives' tales. Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness.Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next.
Fitness today is a priority for almost everyone. People have implemented measures such as portion control, dieting, regular exercise, and getting fitness coaches. To some extent, they even go for surgery to be fit, which is very good and commendable. Apart from Physical Exercise (P. E), there is another called Spiritual Excercise (S.E), whose benefit outweighs that of P. E we will discuss that today.
Spiritual exercises are the things we do to ensure our spiritual fitness. To be spiritually fit, you must have a plan for it, and it starts with God's word; in the beginning was the Word. Acts 20:32a "And now I entrust you to God and the word of his grace—his message that is able to build you up. Another plan to boost your spiritual fitness is a through prayers; Jude 1:20
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. The next item on this plan is that you should have a spiritual gym, and that gym is the church. Psalms 133:2 For harmony is as precious as the fragrant anointing oil that was poured over Aaron's head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe.
At the center of this spiritual exercise is the leading of the Holy Spirit; without Him, your effort is futile. Other spiritual activities include; evangelism, fasting, exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit, giving, praise, worship, a daily devotional life, and so on. Just as it happens with physical exercise, if you don't go by the plan, you get the needed results, so is it with Spiritual exercise; without consistency, you can't achieve much. Beloved, you can't afford not to be on a spiritual plan because it has earthly and eternal rewards.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I pray for help as I enroll in my Spiritual exercise plan; grant me every strength and grace for the journey is long. Never leave along the way; help me run and finish my course in Jesus' name. Amen.
