THE MUST OF LOVE

Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

John and Wendy have been in a relationship for two years and they sincerely love each other. They live free sex life as an expression of their love for another. Eventually, Wendy got pregnant. What love got to do. Again out of love she had to abort the pregnancy because they were not ready. In the process, she had an infection of the uterus which led to damage to the womb. John could not handle the fact that she cause Wendy pain so hooked up to alcohol, often came home drank, and even started abusing the one he loved sincerely. Wendy packed out of his house to her parents and John ended up an alcoholic. How can sincere love leave both partners broken in the end? Was the love sincere at all? The example of sincere love is best explained in  John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The keywords in this text are love, gave, only Son, believe, perish, and eternal life.  Sincere love always gives something. Whether is brotherly love, friendship, relationship, marriage, there is some form of giving even if is the only thing a person has. Whatever the person is giving whether is advice, ideology, money, time, service, acts of kindness must be believed. The caveat is that; what love gives you and makes you believe should not make you perish but lead you to eternal life thus giving you the right standing with God. If the gifts, counsel, and believes you get from the love relationship you have with family, friends, and loved ones tend to destroy you and make you lose your relationship with your heavenly father then that love is not sincere. Sincere love will not destroy you. The result of sincere love is eternal life; having a relationship with your heavenly father.

Prayer: Holy Spirit love is a fruit of the Spirit. Give me discernment to identify sincere love relationships that will bring you glory. I ask for the grace to stay away from relationships that destroy and lead me away from the will of my heavenly father. In Jesus' name. Amen.
