THE DIFFICULT THING TO DO
Luke 17:4-5 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ’I repent,’ you must forgive them." The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"
This was the verse that lead the disciples to say increase our faith. I Luke 17:4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ’I repent,’ you must forgive them." In the eyes of the disciples forgiving someone seven times in a day requires an increase in faith. In other words, they are saying it is a very difficult thing to do. Jesus Christ is the most forgiving Personality of the Bible. From the patriarchs, the prophets, and the law all had forgiveness issues. Father Noah could not forgive his son Ham, he cursed his whole generation for looking on his nakedness. Genesis 9:22&25 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brethren without. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. Mother Sarah could not forgive his servant girl Hagar, she insisted she had to leave her house. Prophet Elisha commanded two bears to devour forty-two children for mocking at him. 2 kings 2:23-25. The law says an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. The teaching of forgiveness is a fundamental teaching of our faith. All the dispensations taught vengeance forgiveness came through Christ Jesus. And there is an underline condition to be forgiven is to forgive others. Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. On the cross of affliction, Christ forgave those who hurt him the most. Forgiveness is not done on a bed of roses but on the cross of affliction.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, give me a heart that forgives just like you. Amen.
