THE ESSENCE OF BURIAL SERVICES

Revelation 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them."

Funeral services are not to the benefit of the dead. It is done for the benefit of the living that we may observe and turn from our wicked ways. Hebrews 9:27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment. The ear of the dead does not receive biographies, tributes, or favorite songs. All that is left for them is judgment. But for the living is a time to reflect our way of life and access our we living and to change from our wicked ways.
Ecclesiastes 7:2 It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart. At burial services when the name of the deceased is mentioned they don't hear to respond. But the living present at service hears and responds to all manner of information and instructions from standing to sing hymns, prayer, listening to a sermon, and so on. Beloved the next time when you go into a burial service is not a time to only sympathize with the family of the bereaved but is time to access your life and decide where you will spend eternity. Hear the word of the Lord and repent. Many dead people wish they would return and tell us the need to repent.
Luke 16:27-30 "He answered, ’Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family,  for I have five brothers. Let him warn them so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’  "Abraham replied, ’They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ "’ No, father Abraham,’ he said, ’but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ No one is leaving the abyss to come and tell you the realities of heaven and hell. Hear the word of the Lord now and repent.

Prayer: Lord Jesus let your word come into my heart may I not be one that only mourns with them that mourn but may I observe the dead and take it to heart in Jesus' name. Amen.
