TEST THE SPIRIT NOT THE GIFTS
Titus 1:6-7 An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless —not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.
Apart from a persons gift from God such as working of miracles, prophecy, healing, singing, etc. There are traits that show if one has really encountered Christ Jesus. Having spiritual gifts without exhibiting the fruit of the spirit can be disastrous. In 1John 4:1 the word says Dear friends, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
The Bible did not say we should test the gifts but we must test the spirit. Gifts cannot be tested but the spirit can be tested. We test the spirit in people by the fruit they bear. It doesn't matter the season of drought, sunshine, rains, storms a plant or tree goes through in the end it produces its fruit. The Bible clearly states how they must conduct themselves as they go through the seasons of life as outlined in our verse for today. Watch out for these characters and the fruits of the Spirit as you relate with God's servant to see if they are from God. _Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law._
Prayer: Father open the eyes of my understanding in these times to know your true servants in Jesus name Amen.
