THE GENESIS OF IDOLATRY

Romans 1:21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Some things lead people into rebellion against God and into idolatry. As we go through today's text, check your heart and assess yourself not to fall into any of these.  The first way you enter into rebellion and idolatry is knowing God and refusing to give Him glory. This how is begins not ascribing to God the glory that is due Him. Isaiah 14:12-15 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: `I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.` Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. When you know God and His works, especially in your life and you fail to acknowledge Him and glorify Him then you are entering into idolatry.

The second on the list is not being thankful. When you don't thank God and appreciate Him for all He does in your life, beloved you are toeing the path of idolatry and rebellion. God is interested in your thanksgiving. If it were not so Jesus Christ would not have asked the question, where are the other nine? Luke 17:15-17 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. So Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? God expects that you return to Him with our thanksgiving for everything He does for you. Say thank you Jesus Christ for the big and small things God does for you.

As simple as these two principles may look; thanksgiving and glorifying God. When you fail to do them your thoughts become futile( Incapable of producing results; doomed not to be successful; not worth attempting the synonyms of futile is useless) and your heart darkened against God. Check your life and your heart beloved, Idolatory does not start with sacrifices, initiations and getting deities. These are the little things that trigger idolatry and rebellion towards God. Is the little foxes that destroy the vine.

Prayer: Father I ascribe to you all the glory that is due your name. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for all you have done and continue to do for me. Holy Spirit cause my life to overflow with thanksgiving and glory to my Father in heaven. Amen
