"IT IS WELL"IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

Isaiah 3:10 Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.

"It is well" or "All is well" is a cliche we all love to use when situations and circumstances of life overwhelm us. In as much as it is a nice cliche to use, I came by the Spirit of God to announce to you that it does not apply to everyone. 

The hymn writer, Horatio G. Spafford (1828-1888), could write the song "It is well" because he was a righteous man. In the midst of losing a property to fire, his son dying earlier on and losing his four children in a shipwreck he could still write so because his fruits in life are not his business or family but his relationship with God and the works he has done for the kingdom of God. The whole chapter of Isaiah three is full of God's wrath that he will unleash on the wicked generation of Israel yet one verse contained a message of hope to a group of people called the righteous. Beloved don't be tempted to fall into the error of thinking that all humans will have the same fate after death. If all humans did not sleep in the same room, eat the food, drive the same cars, and wear the same clothes while alive; what makes you we will have the same faith when we die? Stop making general statements and make a personal decision to follow the Lord Jesus Christ.

In God's eyes there are two groups of people here on earth; the righteous - referring to those who have accepted God's reconciliation with humanity through the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross and have accepted Him as their Lord and personal Saviour; walking in obedience with His teachings. and the wicked- referring to those who have rejected God's reconciliation through Jesus Christ and continue to live in their wicked ways. God's message to these two groups has been constant. To the righteous, he makes some statements like what is in our text today. Isaiah 3:10 Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. Revelation 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them." and many more.  To the wicked he keeps saying some of these; Ezekiel 33:11 Say to them, ’As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’ Matthew 3:1-2 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

Beloved, it may be well with you to some extent on this side without knowing Jesus Christ but I can promise you this by the authority of God’s word that on the other side - in eternity you will be very miserable. It will not be well with you at all if you don't know Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. Today decided to be part of those who God will tell it is well. Move on to the righteous side of God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus forgive my sins, I believe in you as my Lord and Saviour; write my name in the book of life that I will be numbered among the righteous of God in your name I pray. Amen.
