THE RENEWED MIND
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable —if anything is excellent or praiseworthy —think about such things.
The finals of sporting events are always crucial to, the teams, spectators and fans because it comes with great rewards. Similarly, the final words of people are of great importance and benefit if we adhere to them. These are the final words of Apostle Paul to the Philippian church.
This same apostle wrote in Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Paul in final words to the Philippian church shows us what it means to have a transformed mind that does not conform to the pattern of the world. The words are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. These thoughts are indications of a renewed mind. The first indication of a renewed mind is truth. Truth is mentioned in Ephesians 6:14 as the first armour of God. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist. What is the truth then? Truth is a personality - Jesus Christ. He is the way, truth and life. Revelation 19:11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. The renewed mind believes in Jesus Christ and all about him. It is this first thought that affects all faculties of an individual's life. Jesus becomes the standard for everything.
All the other six indications of a renewed mind are possible if you have the first. We practice them with Christ in mind. To be noble means to have honourable qualities; having moral eminence and freedom from anything petty, mean or dubious in conduct and character, thus a renewed mind is not corrupt.
Purity is when you are free of flaws or imperfections, to have pure thoughts you must go by God's word. James 1:25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it —not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it —they will be blessed in what they do. A lovely thought sees people, things, and situations as beautiful; charming; very pleasing in form, looks, tone, or manner. This was the mind God had at creation. Such thought creates or produces good things in the end. Genesis 1:31a God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. A right thought complies with justice, law or reason. Isaiah 11:4a but with righteousness, he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. If an admirable thought deserves the highest esteem, can your thoughts be esteemed?
When all is said and done when your thoughts are cast on a screen for all to see, they should be excellent and praiseworthy. Proverbs 12:26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I commit my thought pattern to you, from today I renew them with that which is pleasing in the eyes of God in Jesus' name. Amen.
