ARE YOU A BRANCH OR A GENTILE IN A DAY?
Isaiah 4:1-2 In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, "We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!" In that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.
Isaiah chapter four has just six verses that have two groups of people doing two different things in a day. It gives us a picture of the things people are preoccupied with in the day.
When God blesses us with the gift of the day, there are two kinds of activities going on. We have those who belong to the group in verse one. All they think about is getting a name for themselves. They are willing to make any sacrifice just to get a name. No wonder people parade nudity and follies online in the name of getting followers and likes. Jesus Christ spoke about this group in Matthew 6:25, 32“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Jesus called them gentiles-people who seek after worldly things in the day. The amazing thing is that they were not answered on the proposal they sent in, as to whether the men said yes or no, only one verse in the six verses was dedicated to them. The rest of the verses focused on those in verse two. This is how the day of gentiles looks like, running after things but in the end, they are not recognized or given any proper audience the end of their day is highly unproductive.
We have the second group of people in verse two whose life is glorious and beautiful because their preoccupation was to stay connected to the vine. Jesus has this to say about them in John 15:4-5
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. The rest of the five verses are dictated to the blessing of being a branch in your day-to-day life.
The Lord will wash the filth from beautiful Zion - Vrs 4a; there is forgiveness as you constantly stay in God's word. You have been made clean by the words I have spoken to you says, Jesus. Isaiah 4:5 Then the Lord will provide shade for Jerusalem and all who assemble there. The shade of God provides; safety, salvation, healing, progress and many more. Isaiah 4:6 It will be a shelter from daytime heat and a hiding place from storms and rain. Being a branch of God in your day-to-day life gives you all-around protection. When God gifts you a day let it be about Him, not you.
Prayer: Holy Spirit make me a fruitful branch in my day-to-day activities, may I be about the father's business at all times in Jesus' name. Amen.
