THE TABLE OF REASONING
Isaiah 1:14-15 Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood!
There are scriptures in the bible that tells us we should bring our burdens to God. God loves to receive our burdens. Jesus in His words in Matthew 11:28 said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 1 Peter 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you. What are the burdens that God cannot stand?
Isaiah 1:14-15 Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood!
God is telling the church that our new month, cross-over nights, weekly meetings and our many gatherings are burdens to Him. He cannot stand it. He hates them. Mercy on us, when we rush and gather at places where God is not present. Isaiah 1:13-15 mentions church routines that the Lord hates; gifts and offerings, fastings, church programmes, and our prayers. These things mentioned here are integral in our walk with God. What then is the essence of doing them if God does not accept them? Doing them is not wrong, God requires us to partake in each one of them but they become acceptable only when they are done in the light of God's word or His will.
Isaiah 1:15b For your hands are covered with the blood of your innocent victims. This is the reason the requirements of our faith becomes a burden to God. What we must do to receive blessings rather become a curse to us. But the good news is that God has made available the ways and means for us to get it right. Isaiah 1:16 -17 Wash yourselves and be clean! Let me no longer see your evil deeds. Give up your wicked ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the orphan. Fight for the rights of widows. When you do good, fight for justice, defend the orphans, and fight for the right of widows, then your church and faith programs attendance, gifts, fastings, and prayers are acceptable before God and once you do them you receive a blessing from them. But if you are part of those victimizing the innocent and perpetuating evil, then your coming before God is a burden to Him. If build you build a thousand temples and give to the church from money gained from evil means, you have only contributed to someone's salvation while you will perish. So in Isaiah 1:18, God calls us to the table of reasoning. He simply said you bring me, gifts, you love to come to church, you fast and pray but am not pleased with you. I have seen your zeal but is wrong. Therefore come to me for cleansing and change your ways and do things as I desire and require of you. God does not want you to waste your time in vain service. Is about time you stop the negotiations with yourself and accept the deals He offers you because if you fail to accept it, in the end, it will go against you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I burdened you so many times, wash me by the cleansing power of your blood and accept every faith requirement I bring to you as I follow the ways of goodness, justice, defending the oppressed, orphans and widows in Jesus' name. Amen.
