THE FAIR TRIAL
Isaiah 5:7 For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
In his song "Equal rights" the reggae legend Peter Tosh sings; that everyone is crying out for peace, and none is crying out for justice. To him is not fair to want peace when justice has not been served. In the song about the Lord's vineyard in Isaiah chapter five, God also seeks to be justified in His actions against the people of Israel.
In verse one, God illustrates the kind of vineyard He gave to his beloved and the processes He had to go through; ploughing and planting the best of vines. He continued in the proceeding verse about the security He had in place and the product unit He set up. Isaiah 5:1-3 Now I will sing a song for the one I love about his vineyard: My beloved has a vineyard on a rich and fertile hill. He plowed the land, cleared its stones, and planted it with choice vines. In the middle he built a watchtower and carved a winepress in the nearby rocks. Then he waited for a harvest of sweet grapes, but the grapes that grew were wild and sour. Like it happened in the book of Genesis where God took time to create all things and planted man in the garden of Eden - His presence. Beloved all that God has done for you and continues doing for you is for the simple reason that he wants you to stay in His presence. Your life, good health, children, money, work, connections, academic accolades and all the unseen blessings God has given you, is for you to stay in His presence and to have a relationship with Him. God gets broken and disappointed when we turn our backs against Him because of the blessings He has bestowed on us.
Isaiah 5:3 "Now, you people of Jerusalem and Judah, you have heard the case; you be the judges. What more could I have done to cultivate a rich harvest? Why did my vineyard give me wild grapes when I expected sweet ones? We push God to unleash His fierce anger and judgment on us when we fail to fulfil our part of the deal. Our part of the deal is to fully obey Him and stay in His presence. Genesis 3:23-24 So the Lord God banished Adam and his wife from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made.
After banishing them from the garden, the Lord God stationed mighty angelic beings to the east of Eden. And a flaming sword flashed back and forth, guarding the way to the tree of life. Beloved is a fair trial when we face His wrath for not obeying Him and staying in His presence.
Psalms 51:4 Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.
You would have done worse if you were God.
Remember that employee you sacked for insubordination, the way you scolded your ward for an error committed, how you have vowed not to go to that place again because of how you were treated? But glory to Jesus Christ that He is not man. The Bible says while we were yet sinners Christ loved us. You deserve to be punished and banished from God's presence but His nature permits Him to reach out to you in love. Jesus Christ has offered to forgive you through the cleansing of His blood and to restore you into His presence. Accept His forgiveness and come into His presence with all the blessings He has given you.
Prayer: Father forgive me for not giving my returns of the investments you have made in me, forgive me, Lord Jesus Christ. I promise to return all with all my dividends in your presence for that is where you require us to be, help me Holy Spirit in Jesus' name. Amen.
