GOD'S EXPECTATIONS OF US
Isaiah 10:20 In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
One thing that God hates to see His children do is to put their trust in people, places and things. He considers it idolatry. Therefore there is a curse pronouncement on those who trust in people. Jeremiah 17:5 Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord.
Isn't it an irony that the people of Israel kept going back to Assyria for support even though they struck them on countless occasions? What will make a person keep going to a person or places where he or she is ill-treated? After all, we are advised to go to places where we are celebrated and not tolerated. We keep holding on to negative lifestyles, people and places because most often we don't want to endure anything for God's sake. The people of Israel after the great deliverance from the land of Egypt desired the foods from Egypt. Numbers 11:4-6 Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “Who will give us meat to eat? We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!” Really? Did Egypt give them anything for free? Just like some of us, we will call, chastity, having to go hungry for God, and Kingdom sacrifices as going dry. We would rather prefer to call compromised life freedom than the true freedom that is in Christ Jesus.
Beloved the devil does not give anything for free. John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Hebrews 11:24-26 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. Beloved God's expectation of us is that we trust Him only through the changing scenes of life. Philippians 4:12-13 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Beloved trust in the Lord and He will grant you every heart desire.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ forgive and deliver me from the curse of trusting in people. Holy Spirit help me to trust in Christ Jesus only. Amen
