THE TYPES OF REST

 

Hebrews 4:10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.

It is very refreshing when after exhaustion you find a place of rest. That feeling is a whole experience on it own. The concept of rest is from God. God was the first to rest after He created all things

 We have the kind of rest that marks the fulfilment of God's promises in our lives. When Joseph became the prime minister of Egypt it was his rest he entered. When Hannah concieved that was also a form of rest, when father Abraham and Sarah had Isaac that also was a form of rest. When the Israelites entered the promised land that was also their rest. When you live your fulfilled life as designed by God you are at rest. But that is not all there is to it. 

Hebrews 4:8 Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. Joshuah took the people into the promised land of God, but that was not rest enough. Earthly rest is still laborious. God's ultimate purpose for us to have external rest. Rest from human labour. You had to go to school, work, change jobs, have sleepless nights etc. befor get your desired kind of life you desire called earthly rest but, there is a higher rest you can experience after your life on earth. In that life you will not be working but you are at rest because of Christ Jesus. Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!” Surely every work on earth is hard work. But in eternity we are promised rest. A life of no work. The sure way of having the final and ultimate rest is to die in the Lord. To ensure you die in the Lord, you must not turn away from God. Those that endure to the end shall be saved.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I desire to experience rest here on earth fulfilling all you have called me to do do. But my greatest desire is having eternal rest with you. So help me Holy Spirit. Amen
