MIGRATION
Ruth 1:1-2 In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab. The man’s name was Elimelek, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there.
One of the most important issues facing our world today is migration. We were not the first to migrate. Migration has existed for ages. Our first earthly parents, Adam and Eve, had to migrate in search of a place to settle after being expelled from Eden. Since then, people have been relocating all over the world. Abraham was summoned to relocate from his hometown to a land that God was revealing to him. Since then, people have moved for a variety of reasons, including to be with their families, to avoid death, to find better opportunities, and for personal enjoyment.
In order to seek better opportunities and escape starvation, the Elimelek family relocates to Moab in the book of Ruth. Unfortunately for the Family of Elimelek, Migration did not help them much, Naomi was the only one who returned. The family head Elimelek and his two sons died in the land of Moab. Naomi returned as a bitter widow, blaming God for her misfortunes, but in the beginning it was never mentioned that they consulted God in their move.
Isaac in the book of Genesis 26:1-3 was faced with a similar challenge, he was tempted to move to Egypt but the Lord cautioned him to stay. God is not against migration but do we seek His face before we move, or we move because of our pressing need. Proverbs 3:5-6 informs us to acknowledge God in all our ways. God has your prosperity at heart, He knows where you will best thrive, take your migration desires to the Lord in prayer and be will direct your path.
Prayer: Holy Spirit I commit my migration plans into your hands, direct the path of my life, let me know when to move and give me the grace to stay when you have asked me to do so in Jesus name. Amen.
