THE GOD OF AFRICA
Isaiah 18:7 At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord Almighty from a people tall and smooth-skinned, from a people feared far and wide, an aggressive nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers—the gifts will be brought to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the Lord Almighty.
The name Cush (Ethiopia) is African. It has about forty-four mentions in the Bible.
Africa was part of God’s plan from the beginning, and we remain in it forever.
Genesis 2:13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same one that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. We are not a cursed people but a blessed people.
Africa played a major role in the world role of preserving the life of Jesus Christ when Herod purposed to kill Him. Africa is the world’s safest haven. It was the safest way to preserve Christ Jesus. Matthew 2:13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” This verse from Matthew is in fulfillment of a prophecy in Hosea 11:1 that says, “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.”
Some people have always asserted Christianity is a white man’s religion, but that is not true according to scriptures; the stay of Jesus Christ definitely left an impact of the Christian faith on the people of Africa. Again on the Day of Pentecost the Bible explicitly records that all nations and tribes were represented. Acts 2:5-6 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. The crowd that Peter preached to on the day of Pentecost included Africans; there were Africans among the three thousand men who gave their lives to Christ.
Finally, in Acts eight, an African had a personal encounter with the Gospel of Christ Jesus; definitely after that encounter, he left as an evangelist, a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Acts 8:26-27 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship. Certainly the God of Africa, the Almighty God.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for Africa. We take our place in you to do great and mighty things in Jesus' name. Amen!
