THE FIRST WILL

1 Kings 2:4 If you do this, then the lord will keep the promise he made to me. He told me, ‘If your descendants live as they should and follow me faithfully with all their heart and soul, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.’

David was giving his dear son Solomon a great charge as he prepared to transition into eternity. The first understanding he wanted him to have is that death is inevitable and is the fate of all humans. This was to encourage Solomon from excessive mourning and to assure him they would meet again. 1 Kings 2:2 “I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man. In the next verse, David explains what it means to be courageous and a man to Solomon his son.  1 Kings 2:3 Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.

The same charge Moses gave to Joshua, David is also giving to his son Solomon. Having Courage, being a man or woman and becoming successful is dependent on the word of God. This was the first inheritance David gave to Solomon. Everything begins with the word of God. You are heading towards danger and failure if you ignore the word in anything you do. In the kingdom of God, it takes God's word to have an inheritance. Acts 20:32 So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. The first will that is given to you when you become born again or a child of God is the Word. Your progress and prosperity in the kingdom solely depend on it.

Prayer: Holy Spirit place in me a deep craving for the word, for is the key to my well-being and prosperity. Grant me the grace to walk faithfully obeying your word.
