A TRUE SON OF ABRAHAM

Luke 19:9 And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.

When Jesus Christ was on earth He identified Himself as the Son of Abraham. Some other time He called the woman with the hunched back a daughter of Abraham. In today's study discussion, we see Jesus Christ call Zacchaeus also a son of Abraham but in Zacchaeus' case, He even goes further to qualify him with the adjective 'true'. What did Zacchaeus do to merit this description from Jesus Christ as a true son of Abraham? 

Zacchaeus just like father Abraham understood what it means to encounter God. That the first test to show you love God above every other thing is your ability to detach yourself from the love of money and earthly treasures to gain the kingdom of God. When there was contention between Abraham's servant and Lot's servant, Abraham being the uncle rather asked Lot his nephew to first choose the portion of the Land he wanted. Again after victory with kings who fought against Sodom, He decided to take nothing from the loot except what was rightfully for his servant.

We cannot serve God and mammoth. The test of your relationship with God is proportional to how you value money and earthly treasures. Yesterday we read about the rich young ruler who failed his test. Luke 18:22-23 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.

Jesus did not comment on the salvation of  Zacchaeus until he denounced his selfish love for money and channelled it to further the course of the Kingdom of God and humanity at Large. Your prosperity is meaningless unless it leads to the salvation of souls and helps the course of humanity. Paraphrased- Rev. Steve Mensah. True children of Abraham are heavenly-minded, they detach themselves from the selfish love of money but rather use their resources to further the Kingdom Agenda and the welfare of humanity in this they experience the salvation of the Lord.

Prayer: Holy Spirit keep working on my heart and mind so I will use my resources to further the Kingdom of God and help humanity to receive salvation for my soul and house in Jesus' name.  Amen.
