A DIFFERENT KIND OF SLAVE

Luke 7:2-3 At that time the highly valued slave of a Roman officer was sick and near death. When the officer heard about Jesus, he sent some respected Jewish elders to ask him to come and heal his slave.

What a description to be given to a slave. Slaves are known to be worthless and always at the mercy of their masters. How can a slave be of high value? The people of Israel were slaves in Egypt yet very dear to God's heart. At their cry, God sent the deliverer Moses to them.

Every human was created in the image and likeness of God and that is how precious you are. You are the apple of God's eye. What made you become a slave is the sin of our first parents Adam and Eve, we grew up with this fallen nature and continued to disobey God. Yet while you are a sinner God places a high value on you, loved you and puts in place a redemption plan for your salvation.

The Roman Officer here is a representation of God. The highly valued slave is one of God's children who has been enslaved by sin that is taking him or her into eternal damnation. The Jewish elders represent those who have been assigned by God to preach the good news to the lost thus believers. Every believer is on a mission to point the perishing soul to Jesus Christ. 

The one that heals the lost soul is Jesus Christ. Every soul is precious to God and God has commanded every believer to point them to Christ. It is for us to tell others about Jesus Christ, let us play our part and the Godhead will also play their part.

Prayer:Father thank you for placing a high value on every lost soul that belongs to you.  As I share your message of salvation with them, draw them Holy Spirit to the Father in Jesus' name.  Amen.
