NATIONAL CRISIS

1 Kings 18:18 “I have made no trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “You and your family are the troublemakers, for you have refused to obey the commands of the lord and have worshiped the images of Baal instead.

In every nation, some people are the real troublemakers. Funny enough they don't see themselves as the trouble makers. They tend to attack those who speak the truth and label them as troublemakers then they mark them as their enemies. Just like in the case of Ahab and Elijah. Because Elijah pronounced there would be a drought in 1 Kings 17: 1 Ahab tagged him as the troublemaker. The troublemakers are not those who speak the truth. The troublemakers are those who rebel against God by disobeying his word.

This is how nations and individuals get themselves into trouble. Consistently you will see the nation of Israel face a lot of troubles because some people disobeyed God. A nation's suffering is often linked with leadership. Anything any king is Israel led with the fear of God the people prospered but when a king who is wicked rules the nation suffers. 1 Kings 16:30-33 But Ahab son of Omri did what was evil in the lord’s sight, even more than any of the kings before him. And as though it were not enough to follow the sinful example of Jeroboam, he married Jezebel, the daughter of King Ethbaal of the Sidonians, and he began to bow down in worship of Baal. First Ahab built a temple and an altar for Baal in Samaria.

Then he set up an Asherah pole. He did more to provoke the anger of the lord, the God of Israel than any of the other kings of Israel before him. It was the sins. The predicament of the nation then was a result of the past sins of the leaders and that of Ahab himself. Leaders cause a national crisis when they disobey God. That is why we are admonished to pray for them. The essence of our prayers is to ensure they obey God so the wrath of God is not unleashed on the nation for all to suffer. Ahab's sin led to a national crisis. 1 Timothy 2:1-2  I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.

Prayer: Father Intercede for global leaders and anyone in authority whose decisions affect the well-being of humanity. Envelope them with the spirit of the fear of the Lord that they walk in obedience to will and not disobey you so that your prosperity will fall on the nations in Jesus' name. Amen
