DIFFERENT ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE SAME SEASON

1 Kings 18:7 As Obadiah was walking along, he suddenly saw Elijah coming toward him. Obadiah recognized him at once and bowed low to the ground before him. “Is it really you, my lord Elijah?” he asked.

During the reign of King Ahab, two men of God worked with him. Elijah and Obadiah. The two operated differently around the King because their assignments were different. Obadiah's assignment was to live with the king and serve him. Who loves to serve under a wicked King, no one! Yet for Obadiah, it was his assignment to serve under Ahab. God used his service there to achieve a greater purpose. He may have not been popular like Elijah but he lived out his purpose.

1 Kings 18:3-4 So Ahab summoned Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. (Obadiah was a devoted follower of the lord. Once when Jezebel had tried to kill all the lord’s prophets, Obadiah had hidden 100 of them in two caves. He put fifty prophets in each cave and supplied them with food and water.) When Elijah made his second appearance before Ahab it was Obadiah who he first met and asked him to tell his master Ahab.  1 Kings 18:7-8 As Obadiah was walking along, he suddenly saw Elijah coming toward him. Obadiah recognized him at once and bowed low to the ground before him. “Is it really you, my lord Elijah?” he asked.  “Yes, it is,” Elijah replied. “Now go and tell your master, ‘Elijah is here.’” Obadiah never robbed shoulders or envied Elijah. He knew it was not in his place to make bold pronouncements before Ahab, neither was it his assignment to call fire to fall nor slay four hundred prophets of Baal, he even did not think of becoming like Elijah or thinking about becoming his assistant.

He was content in his place as a servant in the house of Ahab.1 Kings 18:5 Ahab said to Obadiah, “We must check every spring and valley in the land to see if we can find enough grass to save at least some of my horses and mules.”  Someone's public ministry does not cancel out your private ministry. Is the same Lord who has called for you for a different assignment for his purpose. When some people think of excelling in ministry they are looking at doing things that will move them from their assignment which may look private to public ministry that is when they feel they are excelling. Beloved God's purpose of giving you that assignment and wiring you for is greater and fulfills a higher purpose than your carnal observations. Arise in contentment and do what God has called you to do whether public or private to the glory of God in Jesus' name.

Prayer: Holy Spirit open my eyes to the higher purpose for which you have called me to be content and to serve to your glory in Jesus' name. Amen
