ANSWERING GOD'S QUESTIONS
1 Kings 19:13-14 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied again, “I have zealously served the lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”
Communicating with God is fundamental in our walk with Him. If prayer is communication between you and God then, you should not be the only one talking, we should also allow God to speak back to you. In God speaking back to you in prayers, one of the things He does is to question you. In the Garden of Eden God asked Adam where are you? Here on Mount Sinai God questioned Elijah. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” At one point in your life, you will face God's question whether you like it or not.
It is very important how to you answer God when
He questions you because your answer can cause your promotion or demotion. This was the second time God asked Elijah the same question on Mount Sinai. He was asked the same question in 1 Kings 19:9 and 1 Kings 19:13. In both instances when Elijah was questioned by God he gave the same responses. 1 Kings 19:10 So he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they seek to take my life.” In this case, He used His word which says on the account of two or three witnesses a matter is established. From the responses of Elijah, it implied he was tendering in his resignation letter. What can you learn from his response? One you don't go to God in self-righteousness.
God detests that. When Jesus Christ came on the scene He had to pass a comment about two people praying. He condemned the Pharisee for praying in a self-righteous manner. You don't go to God with your achievements but you go in all humility knowing even your achievements came from Him. David never mentioned his achievements before God but his fears, doubts, and afflictions. Again we see that Elijah's prayer at this instant did not have any request, it was but complaints. God does not respond to our complaints but to our faith. I alone am left, and they seek to take my life.” Maybe adding the statement Lord help me or deliver me would have brought a difference in the outcome of events. Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Holy Spirit give me utterance and help me to pray according to your will of the Father. Give me the boldness to bring my request before the Father in Jesus' name. Amen.
