THE OPPORTUNITIES TO REJECT

1 Samuel 24:4 “Now’s your opportunity!” David’s men whispered to him. “Today the lord is telling you, ‘I will certainly put your enemy into your power, to do with as you wish.’” So David crept forward and cut off a piece of the hem of Saul’s robe.

Each day comes with great opportunities. The good, the ugly, the ones we are not certain about etc. Sometimes the day brings us the very opportunity we are looking forward to just like David's situation, what we will call an open door.  David came face to face with his enemy King Saul but did not consider it an opportunity to kill rather he spared the king's life. David's reaction and answers show us why he rejected this particular opportunity. 1 Samuel 24:5-6 Now it happened afterward that David`s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul`s robe. And he said to his men, "The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord`s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord."

The first thing that moved David to reject this opportunity was his conscience which was controlled by the Spirit of God within him. Some people's consciences are controlled by the devil while that of believers are controlled by the Holy Spirit. If your life is controlled by the Holy Spirit He prompts you against any evil move, you will be troubled,  uncomfortable and agitated when you do wrong anyone or sin against God. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron. The moment you are not pricked when you sin it means your conscience is dead and the Holy Spirit is silent in your life. Any opportunity that tortures your conscience and grieves the Holy Spirit within you is not of God therefore you should reject it. Again David saw Saul as God's anointed. If we see our fellow humans as God's anointed we will not take advantage of them and call it opportunity.

Prayer:  Blood of Jesus cleanse my conscience. Holy Spirit constantly remind me when am tempted to grieve you in Jesus' name. Amen.
