FAITHFUL SHEPHERDING

1 Samuel 17:20 So David left the sheep with another shepherd and set out early the next morning with the gifts, as Jesse had directed him. He arrived at the camp just as the Israelite army was leaving for the battlefield with shouts and battle cries.

In our text for today, David exhibits one quality of faithful shepherding that Jesus Christ demonstrated to the church. A shepherd simply means an overseer, steward, in charge, manager etc. All believers are shepherds in the eyes of God. We have to manage and account for the salvation God has given us. A faithful shepherd leaves his sheep in the hands of another faithful shepherd in his or her absence. This Jesus Christ demonstrates in John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

You are a very bad shepherd if you leave your sheep without handing them over to another faithful shepherd. The Holy Spirit is as faithful and true as Jesus Christ himself.  Some shepherds leave their sheep in the hands of wolves, they return to see their sheep devoured. As a shepherd, you have to pray to God to send good shepherds who can take care of the assignment in your absence. Another way to also raise faithful shepherds is by training and equipping people to take up the task in your absence. 2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Even Jesus Christ left the scene for the Holy Spirit to take over. Every shepherd or steward will eventually leave the scene either by expiration or death. What will be the fate of your sheep in your absence? Pray and train the well being the sheep depends on it.

Prayer: Holy Spirit I pray send me the right people in Jesus' name for the sustenance of the sheep and the assignment. Amen
