SELF DEPENDENCE

1 Samuel 14:18-19 Then Saul shouted to Ahijah, “Bring the ephod here!” For at that time, Ahijah was wearing the ephod in front of the Israelites. But while Saul was talking to the priest, the confusion in the Philistine camp grew louder and louder. So Saul said to the priest, “Never mind; let’s get going!”

One of the devil's strategies against you as a believer is to get you to disobey God. And he does that through fear. King Saul heard the earthquake which was in reality God's victory for Israel through Jonathan and his armour bearer. He then called for a roll in his camp and saw Jonathan his son and his armour bearer were absent. He immediately went into a panic and called the priest Ahijah to inquire of the Lord but in his attempt to seek the Lord's face the confusion went louder and louder, out of panic and anxiety he ignored God and command the army to move.

Oh! What a dire error. This is exactly what the devil wants for us to disobey God and come under his wrath. When you are closest to obeying God he will cause the storm to rage so you find ways and means to help yourself as King Saul did. The hymn writer puts it this "O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer" If Saul had consulted God, he would have known that it was God at work through his son Jonathan whom he sought. Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Always ask God before you act.

Prayer: Holy Spirit remind me at all times to seek your counsel at times regardless of the fiery storms and fire in Jesus' name. Amen
