THE WILLING SPIRIT AND A WEAK FLESH

Mark 14:38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

In our faith journey as believers, one of the areas we often ignore is the flesh or the body. The flesh is often not regarded as profitable. Scriptures encourage us not to yield to the dictates of the body, but there is profit in the body.

In our verse for today, we are privileged to see a to have Jesus Christ enlighten us on the usefulness of the flesh. At the peak of His ministry, when he needed the intercession of His three core disciples, Peter, James, and John, they failed to deliver. And Jesus Christ tells them to the face your spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak; therefore, they should watch and pray. A weak body is a limitation to a willing spirit. We often say where there is a will, there is a way. But the way is only possible when your body supports you. We often center our prayer on building our inner man ( the spirit) and ignore the body forgetting that the spirit cannot operate without the body. The body and spirit are both important. We body up by prayer and the word.

One reason we experience weaknesses and yield to temptation is our lack of discernment about the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Paul was not part of the early disciples of Jesus Christ. Years after his conversion, he wrote to the Corinth church, and this is what he had to say. 1 Corinthians 11:23 -30 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,  and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. The three core disciples had just returned from the Lord's Supper with the Master Jesus Christ, yet they were too weak to stay on with the Master in prayer. Could it be that they did not discern the body? Beloved, feed on the body of Christ Jesus with the understanding that you may get strength for your body to execute the task of the willing spirit.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me for not discerning the value of your body. Holy Spirit, give me a fresh understanding of the Lord's body that I may eat to bring strength and healing to my body.
