DEALING WITH ANGER TANTRUMS

Psalms 4:4 Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.

Anger is one human expression that if possible we would all like to avoid. It is natural for all who are made in the image and likeness of God to get angry. God is not silent on anger He gives room for its expression and He instructs on how to deal with it.

Anger strong feeling of hostility or antagonism towards someone or something, usually combined with an urge to harm. Anger has a force of control like alcohol when it is taken in excessively. You lose yourself and it takes over you. What causes anger may be internal or external that is you can provoke yourself to anger or others can make you angry. Things that make you angry from within include dissatisfaction with yourself, not meeting personal goals and targets when ambitions and desires are not met, jealousy, envy, negative comparison, ego etc. The result of inward anger if not managed well leads to anxiety, depression, and psychological issues and sometimes victims contemplate suicide. One of the ways to deal with this is to look at yourself in the light of God's word. You are not even what you think you are, or your circumstances, you are made in the image and likeness of God.

Psalms 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. We are very offensive when it comes to the anger we express from other people. The word of God gives us a way to go about it. 1 Peter 2:21-23 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “Who did not sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth” who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously. Jesus said do not let the sun go down on your anger. In His own life, He chooses the way of silence. There are a lot of things we are free to voice out but in anger exercise restrain and be silent.

Prayer: Holy Spirit fill me with your fruit of patience and self-control so that I may master my reactions when I am angry in Jesus' name. Amen
