THE IRONY OF SECRETS

Joshua 2:1 -2 Then Joshua secretly sent out two spies from the Israelite camp at Acacia Grove. He instructed them, “Scout out the land on the other side of the Jordan River, especially around Jericho.” So the two men set out and came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there that night. But someone told the king of Jericho, “Some Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.”

A secret is something that is not understood or known. Most often people share secrets with people and still call it a secret. Once you share information that is not known with another person it is no longer a secret but shared information. Joshua secretly sent the two spies with the instruction to go and scout the land of Jericho yet the information got to the king.

It was obvious that all the people of Israel knew they were going to siege the land of Jericho and to possess it, yet Joshua when he was sending spies did it secretly. Why? One of the difficult things to find in life is someone or people to trust. Joshua could not trust the congregation of Israel with the information of the spies going to scout the land. He had to do it secretly with two men yet the secret failed. The reporter had accurate details. “Some Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.” He knew who the spies were and their time of arrival in Jericho. A Secret is what you have not shared or told anyone. Stop calling what we shared a secret is open information and don't be surprised if another person hears or knows about it.

Some people intentionally share secrets of others for evil purposes like blackmailing them and also to embarrass them but for others, it may not be intentional, maybe what you shared was beyond the person and he or she had to seek higher counsel to be able to help you. For others, it may be that what you shared with them was too heavy or wild for them to handle. Don't get broken or too disappointed when you hear your secrets out there. Just be bold to ask whoever you shared the details with. You can become bitter, unforgiving, and hostile towards the person if you do not ask. Joshua led the people to conquer Jericho anyway. Regardless you are more than a conqueror.
