WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT
Isaiah 60:22: A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.
What do you want to see and when do you want to see it? You may have dreams, ambitions, or goals regarding a relationship, your finances, or some plan you have made.
Isaiah 60 has a marvelous picture of something that will happen but has not yet happened. Isaiah 60:1 says, “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.” This is speaking of what will be seen in Israel in general and in Jerusalem in particular.
First, a glorious God will be seen. There are a number of verses here that talk about the glorious God. For example, verse 7 says, “I will glorify the house of my glory.” Verse 13 says, “I will make the place of my feet glorious.” Verse 19 says, “The LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.” Verse 20 says, “The LORD shall be thine everlasting light.” In this future time, God will be revealed in a glorious way through the nation of Israel in Jerusalem.
We see the attraction of the Gentiles to Jehovah and His people Israel. For instance, verse 3 mentions that the Gentiles “shall come to thy light.” Verse 10 says, “And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls.” Verse 14 says, “All they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet.” Verse 15 says, “I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.” Verse 16 talks again about how God’s people will be blessed by the Gentiles.
You see the marvelous names of God here. The Bible calls Jerusalem “The city of the Lord” and “The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.” Verse 16 calls God “Thy Savior, and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.” The walls of the actual city are called “Salvation” and the gates are called “Praise.”
This may be an exotic picture for us, but it is one that seems very emphatic. So when will Israel be glorious? Is the world being attracted to Jehovah by Israel? No, this is not happening right now. So when will it happen?
Verse 22 says, “A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.” In other words, it is not going to happen until it happens, and when it happens it is going to happen quickly.
The point that is relevant to us this morning is that God’s timing will never diminish your blessing. It is like the sunrise or the seasons. You can’t hurry it; you can’t stop it; you shouldn’t doubt it. This is true about your life as well. Maybe you want to get married or are concerned about some financial matter. You need to trust God’s timing. God’s timing will never diminish your blessing.
God’s timing is not our own. God tells us in Isaiah that God’s ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. God’s ways are higher and greater than our own. So trust God today with the timing in your life.
Prayer: Father give me the patience to wait for your timing because in your time you make all things beautiful in Jesus' name Amen.
