THE BELIEVER AND TRADITIONS

Mark 7:5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, "Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?"

The disciples of Jesus Christ were Jews. They had practised Judaism right from infancy through to their adult life. But as they encountered the personality of Jesus Christ through His word and lifestyle they did not conform to the traditions of the Jews any longer. The religious leaders were observing how the disciples of Jesus Christ had ignored their traditions and questioned Jesus about it.

This was Jesus' response to them. Mark 7:6-8 Jesus replied, “You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote, ‘These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’
For you ignore God’s law and substitute your tradition.” Jesus' response shows traditions are man-made and not God-made which are camouflaged to look divine as a substitute for God's commands for the profit of some individuals or deities.

Your priority as a believer should be to follow the commands of God. Don't be intimidated by traditions and ignore the laws of God. Sometimes when you first believe you are on fire and ready to defy all odds for Jesus Christ but as you progress you tend to forget that you stand for the laws of God and not the traditions of men.

Peter the chief disciple had a similar experience and nearly denied Cornelius and his household salvation but for God's timely intervention.  Read Acts 10.
Acts 4:19 But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than Him? Always remember our obedience is to God and His word first. The believer must stay from any tradition that doesn't conform to the word of God despite the repercussion that comes with it. Read about Daniel and his friends in Daniel Chapter 3.

Prayer: Holy Spirit in Jesus name grant me the boldness to live and obey God's word over man-made traditions. Grant me grace and faith to hold on to You to the very end in Jesus' name. Amen
