BECOMING PROFITABLE WITH THE WORD

Mark 4:13-14 And He said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word.

The parable of the sower is part of the earliest parables Jesus Christ spoke about.  In the book of Mark, it is the first parable cited. It talks about a farmer sowing the same seed in four soils. At the time of harvest, only one soil was able to produce a good harvest and continued to multiply. He explained that the seed represented God's word and the soil represented the hearers of the word.

God is not wasteful for him to sow in the three other soils means they had the potential of being fruitful at harvest time. The Bible mentioned the conditions that made it impossible for the seed in the three other soils not to germinate. Anyone who wants to be profitable in God's word but endeavour to do away with the conditions mentioned about the other soils.

The first category of people mentioned are the wayside hearers. Mark 4:15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. Beloved Satan can take away God's word from your heart immediately. So is very important that anything you sit in an atmosphere where you hear the word of God, you surrender your heart totally to God and resist the devil by making declarations that the devil has no power to take God's word from you.

The second group of people mentioned are the rocky hearers. Mark 4:16-17 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. The rocky hearers' problem is that they do not have deep roots; to lack deep roots means to give up when you face trials and temptations because of God's word. Beloved to be fruitful in God's word means you must be ready to hold on to the word despite the challenges and troubles it brings to you. Holding on to God's word of purity landed Joseph in prison. Believing and standing for God's word will land you into some problems, but your ability to stand and hold on to the word brings productivity in the end.

The next category mentioned are the thorn hearers. Mark 4:18-19 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. The problem with this group of people is that you are word chokers. You allow the passions of this to enter your heart, making it impossible for God's word to freely circulate in your heart.

The final category mentioned are the good hearers. Mark 4:20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred." They called good because they avoided the mistakes of the first three groups and wholeheartedly went for God's word.

In a nutshell to be fruitful in the word never allow the enemy to take the word from you, stand with the word no matter the trials that come with it and shun the passion and lust of this world.

Prayer: Holy Spirit help my heart from today to be a viable soil for God's word and cause every word to be fruitful in my life in Jesus' name. Amen.
