HOW CAN THIS BE YOUR GOD?

Isaiah 44:18-19 Such stupidity and ignorance! Their eyes are closed, and they cannot see. Their minds are shut, and they cannot think. The person who made the idol never stops to reflect, "Why, it's just a block of wood! I burned half of it for heat and used it to bake my bread and roast my meat. How can the rest of it be a god? Should I bow down to worship a chunk of wood?"

Anything you esteem higher than God is your idol. Your idols are the things that take a chunk of your money, time, energy, attention, priority and service. Jesus sums this up beautifully in  Matthew 6:21 Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be. In your worship of idols, you exhibit superficial knowledge which the Bible calls stupidity and ignorance. What you worship should be greater than you and should not be something you can manipulate. What do you worship? If you are worshipping an image, made of wood, clay, cement or any man-made craft then you are pitiable of all. It means your eyes are closed and your mind is shut. To make it clear, you don't have knowledge and insight, you lack understanding and you do not reflect on your decisions.

The Bible uses the example of a block of wood to illustrate the folly of idol worship. The word of God mentions the common uses of wood as producing heat, it is used to bake bread and meat. Wood is used in building, making furniture and different crafts. So if the wood is what you worship, one day someone can pick it up and use it as furniture, burn it for heat or use your god as a craft. Your god will be reduced to ashes. Is that what you want to worship?

What if your god is made of clay, cement, iron, silver, bronze or gold? Will they last forever? All these are perishable and renewable resources that have no place in what you must worship. Their place is in building, crafts and designs etc. Romans 1:22-24 Claiming to be wise, they became utter fools instead. And instead of worshipping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshipped idols made to look like mere people, or birds and animals and snakes.
So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. If there is anyone you must worship is the Living God. Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Father forgive me of any idol worship, I repent of it, today I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus thank you for redeeming my life from idols. Amen.
